Jakarta is the world famous city for.. traffic jam. We become literally accustomed to it. 15 km driving for 1.5 hour is normal.
Q1. Have you ever feel you are in a traffic jam of life?
Q2. And are you now full steam ahead or still stuck in life? Why?
When I reflected on what matters most in life (blog #1) it is not only about wealth or careers. It is about the who instead of the what i.e. relationship.
Like career, relationship can be in a traffic jam and it sometimes missed from the radar as we are busy with other matters. I am not talking about relationships with those we don’t ‘care’, but ironically we don’t realize we are caught in a traffic jam on relationships that matter to us (e.g. Your family, wife, friends, God).
One morning I got a good verse where on the previous night I just had a small fight with my wife. You know, …normal fights between couples, routine, not big, irritating, with a competiton in bringing back our old sins against each other. Since we had quite a few in these past years, it is a normal married life to me.
But the verse said:
Here is another thing you do. You cover the Lord’s altar with tears, weeping and groaning because he pays no attention to your offerings and doesn’t accept them with pleasure. You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.
It is not that I’m being unfaithful but I realised that I forgot the vows to love my wife like the wedding-day-love or even growing stronger. It is my promise. I reflected maybe the key of this traffic jam is when I say I forgive but I do not forget. Bad memory becames the traffic jam of my relationship.
Then, I wonder what is God’s view of forgiveness and try to learn.
1 John 1:8-9
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
In here, God forgives us as simple as when we say sorry. Plain and simple.
Does he remember?
“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.
It is white. Not pink. No more issue, debt, not even a dot.
None of their past sins will be brought up again, for they have done what is just and right, and they will surely live.
Q3. Do you want to let go and forget?
Q4. Have you ever felt His forgiveness before?
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Will you choose the highway or stuck in the ‘normal’ traffic of life? Choose forgive and forget.
